Geometric morphometrics is a tool capable of measuring the response of organisms to different environmental pressures. We tested the hypothesis that E. cordata wing morphometry, as an indicator of response to environmental pressure, it would vary depending on habitat changes, in the Atlantic Forest, Savanna and dry forest (Caatinga). For analysis of wing shape and size, 18 landmarks were digitized at the intersections of the wing veins 348 individuals. Except for the two populations sampled in Chapada Diamantina, the wing shape had significant statistical variations among the populations (p < 0.05). The wing size variation was also statistically significant among populations (p < 0.05). Although E. cordata is a species tolerant to different environments, the observed morphometric variability may be related to population adaptations to the conditions of each phytophysiognomy.
Resumo: Esta pesquisa foi desenvolvida junto aos moradores da comunidade de Catuni da Estrada, Jaguarari-BA e teve como proposta compreender e inventariar as aves utilizadas como recurso trófico e suas técnicas de captura, zooterápicos, criadas em gaiolas e as lendas/mitos. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada entre os meses de novembro a maio de 2020. Foram entrevistados 50 moradores que utilizam e interagem com a avifauna. A obtenção das informações ocorreu por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas aplicadas individualmente. A partir das informações obtidas, calculou-se o Valor de Uso (VU) para cada etnoespécies citada. Assim, foram registrados 172 etnoespécies local, para o uso trófico citaram-se 24 etnoespécies, destacando-se Crypturellus parvirostris. As aves citadas são normalmente capturadas através de 13 técnicas, destacando-se o uso da espingarda e "visgo-de-jaca". Registrou-se também algumas espécies não consumidas por questões culturais como Coragypss atratus e Fluvicola nengeta. Para o uso zooterápico registraram-se 11 espécies, com destaque a Columbina talpacoti. Pássaros criados em gaiolas representaram 22 espécies, sendo os principais Paroaria dominicana e Sporophila nigricollis. Nas relações simbólico-ritualísticas, os moradores citaram algumas aves que de acordo com o conhecimento biocultural trazem má sorte e prenuncio de eventos climatológicos. Os resultados apresentados poderão contribuir para informações do conhecimento ecológico local no campo da ornitologia. Numa concepção mais ampla sobre o conhecimento ornitológico "não formal" e formal talvez seja possível auxiliar na implantação de formas mais adequadas de programas de manejo e conservação da avifauna, interligados aos fatores socioeconômicos, culturais, históricos e artísticos, de tal forma a ser conduzido por novos paradigmas socioculturais ecológicos.
This study aimed to compare the univariate analyses (relationship between dry matter intake (DMI) and average daily gain (ADG), Kleiber ratio, and residual feed intake) and multivariate analysis (bionutritional index [BNI]) to determine feed efficiency. Were used a total of 160 cattle (individual data) and the analyzed variables were dry matter intake, weight gain, and body weight of the animals. We used five methods to evaluate feed efficiency, the BNI, FE, corrected feeding efficiency (corFE), Kleiber ratio (KR), and residual feed intake (RFI). Study 1 demonstrated that only the FE (p=0.0472) was significant, although the FE after the transformation of Box-Cox (corFE) (p=0.0642) showed a statistical trend. In studies 2, 3, and 5, we observed that BNI was the best biological efficiency indicator. In the study 4, we observed that the best indicators were FE (0.110; p=0.0281), corFE (0.380; p=0.0429), and RFI (0.465; p=0.0340) for the genders. However, corFE decreased the coefficient of variation in all studies. In conclusion, the use of the Box-Cox transformation is as efficient as the multivariate analysis in discriminating experimental groups (genetic groups, different levels of concentrate in the diet, and genders) concerning the other univariate analyzes.
The goal of our study was to evaluate the nutritional potential of dented corn hybrids for silage production. We performed a two-location trial in which 19 dented corn hybrids and five corn controls grew in four randomized blocks within two experimental areas located in the Northern (Campos dos Goytacazes) and Northwestern (Itaocara) Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. We recorded yields of fresh and dry forage matter and yields of fresh and dry grain matter, as well as chemical composition variables. We interpreted variables by assuming a Normal distribution for yield variables and a Beta distribution for chemical composition and ratios. The SAS GLIMMIX procedure fitted the linear model under those assumptions. Dual-pool models fitted the gas production profiles generated by in vitro anaerobic fermentations. We used the nlme of R software to fit the dual-pool models and the information-theoretic approach to evaluate their quality of fit. We did a cluster analysis (NbClust of R) to group corn hybrids based on fresh and DM yields and kinetic parameters of in vitro gas production. Three clusters of corn hybrids stood out, their basic differences relied on fresh and DM yields. Nonetheless, the least-squares means for gas production characteristics among groups did not present disjoint confidence intervals. Therefore, we can infer that dented corn hybrids rank by forage yield, but not by forage quality, and recommend the most productive ones that consistently outstand in both locations (hybrids UENF-2203, UENF-2192, UENF-2193, and UENF-506-11).
The goal of our study was to evaluate the quality of fit from different types of probability distributions for continuous data. For this, performance traits and quality of quail egg in the production of nutraceutical eggs were used as a continuous data source. The data were collected over 42 days, the experimental design was completely randomized with 7 treatments, 6 repetitions, with 252 animals allocated in 36 cages. The distributions for continuous data used were the exponential, gamma, gaussian, and lognormal. The R Open Source and SAS® University Edition software was used to perform the analysis. The graphical analysis of the traits was performed from the predicted versus observed values, Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF), and skewness-kurtosis. The fits were also evaluated by the Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), Conditional model of adjusted R-Square (), Conditional model of adjusted concordance correlation (), Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (KS), Cramer-von Mises test (CvM), Anderson-Darling test (AD), Watanabe-Akaike Information Criterion (WAIC) and Leave-one-out cross-validation (LOO). All the tests indicated the Gaussian distribution as the most suitable and they excluded the exponential distribution for all the evaluated characteristics.
