O custo de realização é um dos aspectos que interferem na quantidade de pesquisas sobre a qualidade do ar no Estado de Rondônia. Em Porto Velho, essa estatística negativa se mantém, o que dificulta o acesso dos interessados aos índices de gases nocivos. Partindo desse pressuposto, esse trabalho teve como objetivo realizar o monitoramento ambiental da qualidade do ar em Porto Velho, utilizando, para isso, a metodologia dos Amostradores Passivos, a fim de mensurar os níveis de dióxido de nitrogênio. As principais fontes do NO2 são da queima de biomassa e de veículos, o gás é responsável por problemas respiratórios e alergias. Na pesquisa foram selecionados cinco pontos e os resultados comparados à legislação ambiental brasileira. Nos resultados, os pontos 1,2,3,4 e 5 obtiveram médias de 6,82 µg/m³; 7,21µg/m³; 10,77µg/m³; 8,79µg/m³; 9,82µg/m³, respectivamente, demonstrando que os níveis durante a pesquisa estiveram dentro dos padrões ambientais de 100µg/m³. Nos resultados, demonstrou-se a eficiência da metodologia, comparando-a com testes realizados por equipamentos ativos. Foi possível concluir que os amostradores passivos são uma alternativa acessível tanto para detectar diversos gases quanto para monitorar a qualidade do ar nas cidades do Estado de Rondônia e de todo Brasil.
