The ProblemA major goal of science instruction in the elementary school is the development of science concepts. Concept development may be facilitated in a variety of ways using a variety of instructional materials.The purpose of t h s study was to determine the influence of three variables-source of data, reading level of the student, and gender-on science concept formation and retention. Information gained from analysis of the data can then be used by teachers to make decisions concerning the most effective method of instruction (source of data) as it relates to (1) boys and girls and (2) students with varying reading performances.
