The paper examined gender difference in the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) among senior secondary school adolescents using the physical science of physics in three (3) separate papers. The paper attempted to ascertain whether gender difference accounts for the score differential observed in the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT). The study adopted a field experiment and a sample size of 410 respondents consisting of 208 males and 202 females respectively. The correlation matrix of the three (3) papers was performed and the two (2) hypotheses were tested with the quintessential Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the gap between males and females widened from one paper to the other with males performing better than females in physics. It was therefore recommended that some motivational strategies should be adopted to stir up female adolescents in physics and other physical sciences as a way of enhancing their career prospects in science-related disciplines.
Emotional intelligence training intervention was used to reduce tobacco smoking consumption among school-going adolescents in state of Edo, Nigeria. The pre-test post-test experimental design was observed. While the 90 participants were purposively selected from the schools that were randomly assigned to EIT (45) and control groups (45). Analysis of covariance and independent t-tests were used for data analysis. The emotional intelligence training intervention significantly improved tobacco smoking cessation of school-going adolescents with pre-test and post-test mean scores of 33.12 (33.12%) and 21.25 (21.25%), respectively. The participants exposed to EIT (Mean = 21.25; SD = 2.68) gained more those in the control group (Mean = 42.79; SD = 14.21). The interaction effect of the treatment and sex was also significant. Conclusively, the emotional intelligence training intervention was effective in tobacco smoking cessation among schoolgoing adolescents, though cessation response could be sex-dependent.
This study investigated the relationship between social roles, employment and spousal adjustment of married women in Nigeria. A total sample of 1,582 married women from the two states selected through multi stage sampling procedure were selected from 17 of the 33 local government areas of the 6 senatorial districts of the two states. A questionnaire designed by the researcher and certified by experts was the main instrument utilized for the study. Data collated were analyzed. Pearson Product Moments Correlation was used to answer the research questions, while simple regression, multiple regression and ANOVA statistics were used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that a significant relationship existed between women’s employment and social roles of married women in Bayelsa and Delta States. It was recommended that couples should be enlightened on the importance of spousal adjustment in facilitating harmonious family life and by extension, proper societal function. Counsellors should guide couples in acquiring effective relationship skills. Some suggestions for further studies were made.
