Introdução: Aproximadamente 30% dos Acidentes Vasculares Encefálicos isquêmicos (AVEi) são de origem criptogênica, ou seja, não são encontrados fatores de risco para tal acometimento. Diante desses casos, é oportuno solicitar exames de rastreio para coagulopatias. Nesse ínterim, um dos fatores que pode estar elevado, sendo trombogênico, é o Fator VIII (FVIII), que possui papel central na formação do trombo.
Objetivo: O objetivo desse artigo é abordar o caso de uma paciente jovem, sem fatores de risco, com dois eventos trombóticos associados a elevação de FVIII e, assim, investigar o papel do FVIII nos eventos trombogênicos.
Conclusão: O FVIII tem papel fundamental na cascata de coagulação. Sua redução – na hemofilia – é fator de proteção para doenças trombogênicas, tendo nesta doença, menor incidência de Infarto Agudo do Miocárdio (IAM), AVEi e Tromose Venosa Profunda (TVP), quando comparado a população geral. Já quando elevado, é importante causa desses mesmos acometimentos, sendo então, importante sua dosagem em eventos trombóticos em pacientes sem fatores de risco conhecidos.
