O artigo tem como objetivo descrever a aplicação de práticas de sustentabilidade empresarial do APL Calçadista de Campina Grande-PB. Para tanto, utilizou-se como base o modelo proposto por Coral (2002), o qual compreende de três dimensões da sustentabilidade: econômica, social e ambiental. Em termos metodológicos a pesquisa caracteriza-se como sendo descritiva e conduzida sob a forma de estudo de caso. No que diz respeito às técnicas, utilizou-se a pesquisa bibliográfica, análise documental e observação não participante. Os resultados do estudo apontam que há a necessidade das empresas que compõem os APLs atuarem de modo conjunto e integrado, como forma de fortalecerem-se no atual ambiente organizacional globalizado, incorporando princípios que ultrapassem o limite da esfera econômica, voltando-se para aspectos sociais e ambientais, de modo a garantir a sustentabilidade corporativa.
A criação de um ambiente favorável para geração do desenvolvimento, através do envolvimento e participação dos atores locais, da construção de parcerias e da melhor forma de funcionamento das instituições tem feito emergir conceitos, modelos e metodologias que retratem com maior ênfase o tema desenvolvimento sustentável. Neste sentido, o artigo tem como objetivo identificar o nível de sustentabilidade das localidades produtoras de mamona na microrregião de Irecê (BA) e suas influências no desenvolvimento local. Como procedimentos metodológicos, foram contextualizados para as localidades pesquisadas os dados constantes no documento IDS Brasil (2004) do IBGE, o qual aborda dimensões e indicadores da sustentabilidade (social, ambiental, econômica e institucional). Os resultados evidenciam que os indicadores de sustentabilidade apresentaram uma situação crítica, o que interfere no potencial econômico que a produção da mamona representa nas referidas localidades e resulta na necessidade de políticas e ações voltadas para a construção de um desenvolvimento efetivamente sustentável.Palavras-Chave: Sustentabilidade; Indicadores; Desenvolvimento Local.AbstractThe creation of a favourable environment for the generation of development, through the involvement and participation of local actors, the building of partnerships and the best way of functioning of the institutions has been emerging concepts, models and methodologies that show with greater emphasis on the theme sustainable development. In this sense, the article aims to identify the level of sustainability of the castor oil plant bean-producing areas of micro Irecê (BA) and its influence in local development. As methodological procedures have been contextualized to the localities surveyed the data contained in the document IDS Brazil (2004) of the IBGE, which deals with dimensions and indicators of sustainability (social, environmental, economic and institutional). The results show that indicators of sustainability presented a critical situation, which interfere with economic potential that the production of castor oil plant bean is in those locations and results in the need for policies and actions directed to the construction of a sustainable development effectively.Keywords: Sustainability; Indicators; Local Development
