Em diversas partes do globo a chamada “crise migratória” passa a ocupar as manchetes e o interesse da opinião pública. Entre as “crises” mais recentes, encontra-se na década de 10 deste século o fluxo de crianças e adolescentes mexicanos e centro-americanos movendo-se de maneira considerada “não-acompanhada” por esta fronteira que aqui leva o nome de “cicatriz da desigualdade”. Muito mais que um espaço geográfico e de um obstáculo de arquitetura física, a fronteira México-Estados Unidos revela que o muro é composto por uma arquitetura legal e paralegal voltada à complexa e paradoxal função de proteger e punir o deslocamento forçado de crianças. Entre diversos encontros possibilitados pela pesquisa de campo para minha tese de doutorado, trago aqui o de Juan Carlos em que as circunstâncias desse encontro revelam os limites do conceito de “não acompanhado” estabelecido pelas instituições mexicanas.
O artigo aborda a agência política de crianças em ações coletivas e movimentos sociais na América Latina. Analisamos a participação infantil no Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST), no Brasil, e na Caravana de migrantes “Pueblo sin fronteras”, no México, buscando fornecer dados empíricos para complexificar a discussão sobre participação política nos campos dos estudos da infância e da ciência política. Ainda que tais coletivos apresentem objetivos e formas de organização distintas, as crianças constroem uma identidade de participantes de um coletivo através da participação nas mobilizações de luta por melhorias nas condições de vida.
