Resumo: Diante da atual tendência comunicacional nas organizações, este trabalho buscou analisar as diferenças existentes entre o processo decisório tradicional (presencial) e o processo decisório mediado por redes sociais digitais, especi camente pelo aplicativo WhatsApp. A estratégia de investigação eleita para esta pesquisa foi o quase-experimento, em que estudantes membros de uma empresa júnior de administração foram divididos em dois grupos para simular uma decisão sobre investimentos. O primeiro fez uso de um processo convencional, com uma reunião presencial, e o segundo teve sua tomada de decisão suportada exclusivamente pela mídia social digital, o WhatsApp. Os dados foram coletados pela observação direta e preenchimento de relatórios de investimentos, ambos estruturados e tratados com análises descritivas, que posteriormente foram comparados com literatura. Os resultados demonstraram que o uso da ferramenta virtual traz incrementos ao processo decisório, proporcionando maior foco, concentração e emprego de um grupo maior de critérios para a tomada de decisão, quando comparado ao processo presencial convencional. No entanto, a maior interação entre os participantes e a busca por fontes externas de informação, para dar suporte à decisão, ainda foram observadas de forma mais evidente no processo decisório convencional. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo a investigação sobre a aplicabilidade da abordagem Design Science na estruturação dos trabalhos de conclusão do Mestrado Profissional em Administração. Embora nas pesquisas de Administração utilizem-se métodos diversos como estudo de caso, pesquisa Survey, pesquisa-ação, ou pesquisa bibliográfica, dentre outros, para estudo de um fenômeno, podem ser analisados sob a abordagem Design Science, conforme afirmaram Dresch, Lacerda e Miguel (2015). Assim, trabalhos que visam a fornecer à sociedade soluções pragmáticas e utilitárias por meio do conhecimento científico, cujo elo é a universidade, por um lado, contribuem para a consolidação do método Design Science, ainda pouco explorado na área da Administração, pelo outro, contribuem para fortalecer e consolidar a identidade do Mestrado Profissional em Administração.
