Daily living activities of the residents of the neighborhoods mostly called ‘dangerous’ ‘ghettos’ differ from the rest of the city-dwellers in various aspects as might be expected. It can be said that one of the most distinct samples of them is seen in their relations with formal education system. Within this frame work, in this paper, it’s aimed to analyse the disadvantaged groups’ relations with educational field from the sociological perspective of Pierre Bourdieu. Especially, the concepts of habitus, field and capital are preferred to understand power relations which have an impact on educational field in a more relational way and to understand this power relations’ effect on daily living activities of disadvantaged groups. In this context, on the purpose of having a more concrete base for the discussion, some data gathered from various observations and interviews in Çanakkale Fevzipaşa neighbourhood – which is widely known as a Gypsy/Roma neighbourhood - was utilized and it was aimed to draw attention to the inequality they face and daily challenges Gypsy/Roma people encounter especially in educational field. As a result, collaterally to Bourdieuan perspective, it was seen that the dominant habitus has an effect which makes the oppressed groups interiorise the stigma of ‘unsuccess’ they are labelled and form a structural base legalizing the inequalities they face. In this sense, it was tried to draw attention to the inadequacy of the concept of equal opportunity in education especially in the meaning of taking the rights of marginalized groups’ under protection.
Konuyla ilgili tartışma Wacquant`in sentor devlet (centaur state) kavramsallaştırması üzerinden yürütülmekte ve Çanakkale Savaşı vurgusunun günümüz Türkiye'sinin neoliberal ihtiyaçlarına nasıl hizmet ediyor olabileceği sorgulanmaktadır.
In this work, we focus on the film Winter Sleep (2014) by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, whose works place special emphasis on various aspects of boredom. As one of the main figures in slow cinema, Ceylan, in this influential work of art, enable us to explore boredom through three main characters: Aydın (Haluk Bilginer), Nihal (Melisa Sözen) and Necla (Demet Akbağ). By taking a closer look at the film, we analyze both symbolism and the behavioral side of boredom as well as how the main characters, in our view, experience and represent distinct types of boredom. In this framework, we examine the issue of boredom and, sometimes, related despair as a result of social change. At the same time, this work partly concentrates on aspects of the socio-cultural structure of Turkey via the analysis of the main characters' suffering.
