Han transcurrido once años desde que las mujeres se incorporaron por primera vez al Ejército Nacional de Colombia, y gracias a la activación del enfoque de género en las políticas de integración de la institución castrense, se ha iniciado la implementación de la igualdad de derechos y participación plena, que ha permitido romper con la participación secundaria de las mujeres en escenarios que se habían configurado y establecido tradicionalmente como masculinos. Los diversos procesos de integración llevados a cabo por el Ejército Nacional han evidenciado la gran capacidad que tienen las mujeres para desempeñarse en cada una de las tareas operativas asignadas. Esto ha permitido que las nuevas cuestiones ya no solo se limiten al estudio de la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres, sino que permitan, ahora sí, entender al grupo heterogéneo de mujeres que deciden seguir la carrera militar.
