La moniliasis causada por el hongo, Moniliophthora roreri, es una de las enfermedades más destructiva del cacao en México y Latinoamérica. El patógeno afecta al fruto en sus diferentes etapas de desarrollo causando pérdidas drásticas en la producción. En el presente estudio se evalúo el efecto antifúngico de aceites esenciales derivado de plantas contra el crecimiento de M. roreri, en medio de cultivo PDA. El aceite esencial de Origanum vulgare, Schinus molle, Syzygium aromaticum, Thymus vulgaris, Pimenta dioica y Cinnamomum zeylanicum, inhibieron el crecimiento total de M. roreri a 500 µl L-1. T. vulgaris causó el mayor porcentaje de inhibición del hongo con valores CMI50 67.65 µL L-1 y CMI95 107.6 µL L-1. Los resultados del estudio aportan conocimiento básico sobre el uso de fitoquímicos y desarrollo de compuestos para el manejo integral sustentable de la moniliasis.
El cultivo de la caña de azúcar (Saccharum officinarum L.) es uno de los más importantes en México; las 828,609 ha cultivadas en el año 2014 representaron 3.7 % de la superficie nacional cultivable. Las enfermedades causadas por hongos, bacterias, virus y fitoplasmas son uno de los desafíos que enfrenta el cultivo. El objetivo del presente estudio fue desarrollar un sistema de micropropagación de tres variedades de caña de azúcar para obtener plantas sanas para estudios de sanidad. Se desarrolló un sistema de micropropagación clonal de las variedades ITV 92-1424, Laica 82-2220 y Q28-2. La regeneración de plantas se logró vía organogénesis directa a partir de meristemos apicales disecados de plantas madre de seis meses de edad. Los brotes se indujeron en medio de cultivo MS adicionado con concentraciones de 2.5 a 7.5 µM de BA. La multiplicación de brotes se obtuvo con las mismas concentraciones de BA en combinación con 1 µM de AIA. El enraizamiento in vitro de las tres variedades fue eficiente en medio de cultivo MS con las sales a la mitad de la concentración. La aclimatación se obtuvo a las seis semanas con 95 a 98 % de supervivencia en una mezcla de turba y perlita (1:1 v/v).
Las heliconias son plantas ornamentales cultivadas como flor de corte y maceta. En México se cultivan cada vez más en Estados que disponen de condiciones climáticas tropicales. Si bien ya es posible la propagación in vitro de heliconias mediante organogénesis directa, aún no se han podido establecer protocolos tanto de organogénesis como embriogénesis somática indirecta para la propagación masiva de genotipos élite. La finalidad de ésta investigación fue desarrollar un protocolo para la inducción y proliferación de callos in vitro en Heliconia collinsiana. Explantes de ápices de raíz, hoja, pecíolo y secciones transversales basales de pseudotallo se cultivaron en el medio de cultivo de Murashige y Skoog (1962) suplementado con 13.6, 27.1, 54.3, 81.4, 108.6 y 135.7 μM de 2,4-D, dicamba y picloram combinadas con carbón activado (0 y 0.5 g L-1). Los cultivos se mantuvieron en oscuridad y a las cuatro, ocho y 12 semanas se evaluó el porcentaje de inducción de callos. Únicamente las secciones transversales basales de pseudotallo indujeron callos a las 12 semanas con 81.4 (100%) y 135.7 (90%) μM de 2,4-D y picloram, respectivamente, combinados con 0.5 g L-1 de carbón activado. Éstos callos al subcultivarlos en 0, 4.5 y 9 μM de 2, 4-D en la etapa de proliferación respondieron diferente. Después de 16 semanas, sólo continuaron creciendo los callos inducidos con 81.4 μM de 2, 4-D en fotoperiodo de 16 h. Los callos generados con 135.7 μM de picloram se ennegrecieron a las cuatro semanas de cultivo en todos los tratamientos evaluados.
Mammillaria plumosa es una cactácea mexicana altamente apreciada como planta ornamental por su peculiar morfología. La extracción desmedida y el saqueo de sus poblaciones silvestres han forzado su protección y actualmente se encuentra clasificada como una especie en peligro de extinción. Ante esta crítica situación el presente trabajo se planteó como objetivo desarrollar un sistema de propagación in vitro eficiente factible de implementarse como una de las estrategias para la recuperación de la especie. Segmentos de tallos con aréolas se sembraron en medio MS (1962), suplementado con 2,4-D (9, 13.5 y 18 μM) en combinación con cinetina (4.6, 9.3 y 13.9 μM). Todos los tratamientos evaluados indujeron la formación de callos pero la activación de las aréolas para su conversión en brotes solo se obtuvo con 18 μM de 2,4-D y 9.3 μM de cinetina. En la etapa de proliferación los callos continuaron su crecimiento en las mismas concentraciones de reguladores de crecimiento, la diferenciación de brotes se produjo a partir de la activación areolar y la diferenciación de brotes adventicios de novo. Los brotes formaron raíces de forma natural en el proceso pero el enraizamiento se mejoró con el cultivo en medio MS (1962) a la mitad de concentración de sales. En la aclimatación de plantas la tasa de supervivencia fue 85% en sustrato de turba y arena de río. Con este protocolo es posible establecer la micropropagación de Mammillaria plumosa donde se pueden regenerar un promedio 500 plantas en 24 semanas de cultivo, las cuales podrían servir en la restauración de poblaciones silvestres o para su aprovechamiento comercial.
