presente trabalho tem como objetivo principal compreender o funcionamento do sistema de recompensa na ciencia em diversas areas de conhecimento, a partir de uma perspectiva mertoniana. Para tanto foram selecionadas diferentes comunidades academicas da UNICAMP, representadas pelos seguintes institutos: lnstituto de Fisica, lnstituto de Qui mica, lnstituto de Biologia e lnstituto de Filosofia e Ciencias Humanas.Em cada um desses institutos foi analisada uma serie de caracterlsticas que permitissem entender o processo de busca de reconhecimento dos cientistas pertencentes a esses institutos, tais como tendencias de uso de canais formais e informais de comunicagao para divulgar os seus trabalhos academicos, formas de colaboragao e organizagao da pesquisa e participagao da mulher na ciencia.Tal analise foi possivel atraves de um detalhado e minucioso levantamento de informagoes quantitativas obtidas tanto dos Anuarios Estatisticos da UNICAMP como dos curriculum vitae dos professores da amostra. Estas informagoes foram complementadas por depoimentos obtidos em entrevistas realizadas com um numero significativo de pesquisadores.Os resultados obtidos revelaram que o funcionamento do sistema de recompensa varia significativamente entre as diversas areas de conhecimento, tanto no que diz respeito aos padroes de publicagao e organizagao do trabalho quanto na sua relagao com a questao do genero.
