Este artículo estudia y edita documentación relativa a dos causas instruidas por G. M. de Jovellanos como Alcalde de Casa y Corte en Madrid en 1779. Se trata de dos textos breves que revisten interés porque solo teníamos noticia indirecta de cinco causas, porque estas dos nos permiten conocer de primera mano su desempeño judicial, porque la documentación conservada de las causas de la Sala de Alcaldes de Casa y Corte es limitada, y porque aportan algunos detalles sobre su trayectoria en 1779-1780, una de las etapas menos conocidas de su vida.

Investigadora «Ramón y Cajal» del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, del que fue becaria postdoctoral (2001-2003); miembro del Instituto Feijoo de Estudios del Siglo XVIII (Universidad de Oviedo), del que fue becaria doctoral (1996-1998), y secretaria de la revista Cuadernos cíe Estudios del siglo XVIII; tras cuatro estancias en Hispanoamérica como becaria «Intercampus» (1995-1998), se incorpora en la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC, Argentina) como becaria «Mutis» (1999) con un proyecto sobre Ilustración argentina; ha regresado como profesora invitada en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNC (2000, 2001) e investigadora visitante en su Centro de Investigaciones (2002. 2003); becada por la British Academy y por el CNRS se ha incorporado como investigadora en la Universidad de Londres (2002) y en la Sorbonne Nouvelle (2003).
