Addition-elimination of an alcohol to 1,2-bis(phenylsulfonyl)ethylene afforded b-alkoxyvinyl sulfones which were submitted to reductive elimination with 6% sodium amalgam to produce the corresponding ethenyl ethers in high yields and purity.
