Several members of this journal's editorial advisory board give brief views on how they see the future of interlending and document supply. The article concludes with an overview of these contributions, together with additional comments by an editorial board member
The study reported in this article was sponsored by the Robert Vosper IFLA Fellows Programme 1992-1993, and was conducted by Elda-Monica Guerrero in collaboration with Bestabe Miramontes and Laura Orega of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The purpose of the study was to examine interlibrary loan policies in Latin America and to look in particular at restrictions on the availability of its regional publications. MethodologyGiven the large geographic area, the study was conducted in only four countries: Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Venezuela. Libraries included in the study were academic or research libraries with important collections in the areas relevant to the development of these countries: ecology, food technology and public health. As Table I shows, 190 institutions or libraries were contacted.A preliminary questionnaire was sent to each library soliciting its participation in the project as well as inquiring into its interlibrary loan procedures. In spite of the fact that the questionnaires were sent by fax as well as by mail, only 72 institutions responded. Of the 72 respondents, 39 were selected to participate in the project (see Table II). The selection was based on those institutions with established interlending programmes and which hold collections in the core subject areas of the study.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
