Gilberto Freyre e Mário de Andrade foram dois intelectuais do Modernismo brasileiro que, movidos pelo mesmo propósito, contribuíram significativamente para a (re)construção da identidade nacional. Em suas obras, Casa Grande & Senzala ([1933] 2006) e Macunaíma ([1928] 1978), respectivamente, eles problematizam questões até hoje ainda não superadas pela sociedade brasileira. Apresentamos, neste artigo, as estratégias de (des)construção e valorização da cultura brasileira a partir de alguns MC’s. Além disso, esboçamos como algumas lexias foram ressignificadas na tradução interlinguística de CG&S por Barandiarán, e de Macunaíma por Héctor Olea.
