Electrochemical capacitors (ECs) are a vital class of electrical energy storage (EES) devices that display the capacity of rapid charging and provide high power density. In the current era, interest in using ionic liquids (ILs) in high‐performance EES devices has grown exponentially, as this novel versatile electrolyte media is associated with high thermal stability, excellent ionic conductivity, and the capability to withstand high voltages without undergoing decomposition. ILs are therefore potentially useful materials for improving the energy/power performances of ECs without compromising on safety, cyclic stability, and power density. The current review article underscores the importance of ILs as sustainable and high‐performance electrolytes for electrochemical capacitors.
A year into the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the role of washing hands with soap and hand disinfectants is unavoidable as a primary way to control the infection spread in communities and healthcare facilities. The extraordinary surge in demand for handwashing products has led to environmental concerns. Since soaps are complex mixtures of toxic and persistent active ingredients, the prudent option is to promote eco-friendly replacements for the current products. On the other hand, with the increase in soap packaging waste production, soap packaging waste management and recycling become essential to reduce environmental impact. This systematic review aimed to collect some recent methods for identifying biodegradable and sustainable raw materials to produce and package cleaning agents, especially soap.
Increasing demand for non-biodegradable plastics undesirably leads to their accumulation and calls for an appropriate solution for this global crisis. Environmental impacts of PET waste have long been addressed; although some remedies have been proposed, their extensive use in the modern world use demands new studies and recycling techniques. It shows the inadequacy of previous solutions to eliminate this environmental problem. Therefore, researching this subject should not be considered an insignificant issue. Distinctively, this review article has a specific reliance on the use of recycled PET fibers in the production of high-consumption and value-added products that, in addition to considering environmental aspects, can also be attractive to the market. This article deals with recent studies in three product categories (concrete, nonwoven fabrics, yarns) made from recycled PET fibers and shows the high potential of PET fibers for the future industry.
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is a piezo‐polymer which among its crystalline phases, the β‐phase has been researched for the improvement of piezoelectric properties. In this study, to improve the β‐phase contents and thereby the piezoelectric response of the polymer, the effect of adding self‐synthesized ionic liquid surfactant (ILS) in PVDF nanofibers is studied. This material is added in different weight percentages into the PVDF solution and the nanofibers are produced by electrospinning to prepare active piezoelectric thin layers. SEM, XRD, FTIR, and piezo‐tests are employed for assessing the effect of the ILS on the enhancement of β‐phase in electrospun nanofibers and their piezoelectric performance. The results indicate ≈98.6% β‐phase formation in the sample containing 4 wt% ILS and in comparison with the pure nanofibers, the output voltage and its power density are improved 186.9% and 275%, respectively. Considering the results, it is suggested that the ILS can improve the piezoelectric response of the polymer in the fabricated structure by simple mixing in solution compared to other additives.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
