Motivada por inquietações e pré-reflexões iniciais advindas da minha experiência vivida como enfermeira docente-assistencial na área de amamentação, procurei aproximar-me da compreensão do significado da privação do ato de amamentar para o ser-mulher/mãe HIV positiva. Para tal empreendimento, busquei iluminação teórica na corrente filosófica denominada fenomenologia, mais especificamente na teoria fenomenológica da expressão de Maurice Merleau-Ponty, e suporte metodológico na fenomenologia hermenêutica de Max van Manen. Visando a alcançar o objetivo do estudo, aproximei-me intencionalmente de 24 mulheres/mães HIV positivas com idade compreendida entre 18 e 35 anos, e que se encontravam internadas em duas maternidades públicas da Grande Florianópolis, SC, no período de julho a novembro de 2003, constituindo-se estas, nos sujeitos significativos que compuseram o universo estudado. Desta aproximação, viabilizada por meio de encontros autenticamente existenciais, nutridos pelo diálogo, pela ética e respeito mútuos, obtive descrições experienciais expressas corporeamente pelas mesmas, que foram substancialmente enriquecidas pelas observações no campo. A análise estrutural do conjunto de dados obtidos, configurados sob a forma de unidades temáticas e temas essenciais, permitiu-me desvelar três significados que se apresentaram em torno de um significado central, que foram compreendidos como: percebendo-se como ser-mulher: eu sou o tipo de pessoa que não faz mal a ninguém; percebendo-se como ser-mãe: eu sou muito mãezona; percebendo-se como sermulher/mãe HIV positiva: a gente nunca imagina que isso pode acontecer com a gente; e percebendo-se como ser-mulher/mãe privada do ato de amamentar: dói o coração da gente, a gente querer dar o peito, dar de mamar e não poder dar, respectivamente. Em torno do significado central do estudo emergiram os seguintes temas essenciais: atribuindo significado à amamentação: (re)tomando vivências anteriores; percebendo o leite secretado pelo seu corpo: o meu leite é normal, mas ele não é normal; e quando mentir é preciso: o meu leite não desceu, eu não tenho leite; de preferência sem faixa, não usar faixa: isso tem que acabar!; tendo que alimentar o filho com outro leite: percepções e movimentos na espacialidade do alojamento conjunto; ressignificando a amamentação: já que eu não posso amamentar, eu vou dar mais carinho, mais atenção-amamentação simbólica. Tais significados, desdobrados em vários temas essenciais, mostraram-se sob a forma de uma rede, onde aparecem intimamente relacionados, formando um todo integrado e, no conjunto, comportam a expressividade corporal do ser-mulher/mãe frente à privação do ato de amamentar. Embora estejam circunscritos em um universo bastante restrito, se constituem em subsídios valiosos para a compreensão do significado da privação do ato de amamentar para o ser-mulher/mãe HIV positiva, trazendo, deste modo, contribuições importantes não só para a formulação de políticas públicas, como também para a assistência, o ensino, a pesquisa e o saber de Enfermagem...
