Computer Aided Gearshift Systems were first introduced in Japan in 1984. These systems now widespread use in buses and coaches at present, and will be also incorporated in heavy duty trucks. Electronic Automated Mechanical Transmission Systems have also been employed mainly in buses by all Japanese vehicle manufacturers since 1985.This paper discusses the status and progress of these drive-train electronic systems in Japanese trucks and buses. Future trends are also examined.
