El presente texto tiene como objetivo reflexionar acerca de las prácticas directivas en la escuela primaria mexicana que se desarrollan en el marco de una dinámica global que influye en ellas, de tal manera que las conforma y caracteriza, según se hace evidente, en la investigación cualitativa de corte etnográfico realizada mediante la modalidad de estudio de casos, con 13 directores de educación primaria en 2012. A través de un proceso inductivo se construyeron categorías empíricas, que dieron origen a un texto interpretativo que describe y analiza algunas de las prácticas de dirección. Entre los hallazgos más relevantes se encuentra que el directivo “aprende a hacer” en la práctica y, en ella también “aprende a ser”, toda vez que generalmente arriba al cargo por diversas circunstancias, sin la formación específica para desempeñarse profesionalmente en el puesto, lo cual limita considerablemente las posibilidades de mejora de la educación primaria.
En este artículo se reportan los resultados preliminares de una investigación cualitativa más amplia de corte etnográfico sobre algunas prácticas de evaluación de alumnos en una escuela primaria general del Valle del Mezquital, estado de Hidalgo, México. El objetivo del estudio consistió en analizar las prácticas de enseñanza de seis docentes para valorar su efectividad en el logro de aprendizaje de los alumnos. A través de los datos obtenidos de observaciones de trabajo en el aula se diseñó y aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada que permitió identificar que el profesorado enseña y evalúacon base en su experiencia y creencias adquiridas. Se concluye que un cambio en la práctica docente podría iniciarse cuando se consideren nuevas alternativas de evaluación formativa.
