El 2,4 dinitrofenol (DNF) es un químico que desacopla la fosforilación oxidativa produciendo muerte celular. Se presenta el caso de un individuo que ingirió 2 gramos de DNF con la finalidad de perder peso. Fue atendido a las 22 horas de la exposición, con diaforesis, agitación, sensación de alza térmica y palpitaciones. Presentó fiebre, taquicardia y taquipnea; y, en los exámenes auxiliares se evidenció acidosis láctica, azoemia y leucocitosis con desviación izquierda. Evolucionó desfavorablemente con rigidez muscular, estridor y asistolia, falleciendo a las 26 horas de la ingesta del tóxico. El manejo en estos casos es de soporte y de decontaminación gastrointestinal. No existe antídoto.
