Abstract:The paper argues for a parallelism between the emergence of hybrid theories in metaethics and new proposals of categorization for mental states build upon folk psychology concepts. Three samples of hybrid approaches (Copp 2001, Boisvert 2008and Kriegel 2012 and categorizations (besires, aliefs, and in-between beliefs) are discussed. This parallelism is not accidental, but rather indicates a useful direction for the solution of cognitivism versus non-cognitivism debate, provided that the proposed categorizations could be integrated into psychological or neuroscientific theories supported by empirical evidence. Keywords: Folk psychology; cognitivism; non-cognitivism.

Palavras-chave:Abstract: The pervasive use of singular first person pronoun and the rhetorical artifice of exaggeration are two essential aspects of Thomas Carlyle´s prose that we might reidentify examining Henry David Thoreau´s literary outputs. Those characteristics help us to explain the internal relationship between autobiography and fictionality in Thoreau´s moral overview.
In contemporary research on memory, the idea of mental time travel (MTT) has been connected, at the functional level, with planning and imagining what might occur in one's future. Episodic memory impacts on our capacity to move imaginatively towards possible scenarios ahead. Consequently, Gerrans and Kennett (2010, 2016) urge us to agree that MTT is essential to moral agency. In this paper, we suggest that if we conceive the specific varieties of MTT as something more than remembering one's past and imagining one's future, then the capacity of undoing one's past both by episodic counterfactual thinking and the emotion of regret must be considered essential to moral agency on equal terms.
Abstract:The article defines "moral fictions" as beliefs about moral behavior that remain operational in culture despite contrary evidence. Two examples are discussed: a) the praise of solitude in the ethics of Romanticism versus the characterization of loneliness by social neuroscience, b) the defense of transitoriness by authors of American Transcendentalism versus the "end of history illusion" as described in social psychology. The moral fictions are understood as an expression of the autonomy of morality.
