This article presents an overview about theoretical and practical issues related to techers' autorship related to gamification and teachers' practices. Data about previous research made in Brazil about this subject were collected. Based on the collected data is presented a brief analysis on teachers' authorship in gamified teaching practices. This is an exploratory work and it covered research published at the SBGAMES (from 2009 to 2014), at the Capes thesis and dissertations portal (from 2000 to 2013) and also bibliographical production published in Brazil recently. The state of the art revealed the need of the development of further investigation in this area, considering that it consists of a new field of research. It also pointed to the need that educational research and practices feedback each other as a way to increase knowledge around this issue.
Palavras-chave: Educação a distância. MOOCs. Cibercultura. Interação.
This article presents the contextualised interpretive analysis of communicative practices (artefacts including a song and a comic strip) developed by economically disadvantaged secondary students from two Brazilian public schools. Students' uses of standard and popular languages stretch and problematise social and cultural constructions about what it means to be 'literate' currently. The linguistic analysis and the inter-textual analysis of students' multi-modal texts exposed the tensions and the intricacies between rigidly standardised mainstream norms of grammar and socially and culturally embedded textual production and language use at play in many K-12 schools. The analysis challenges current reductionist social conventions about cultural production and language use to further a conception of language that centers difference, change and creativity. It explores the complexity of the artefacts produced by the students according to their hybrid cultural practices, their context and their access to information and communication technologies (ICT). It indicates that students' use of language and multi-modalities presented in the artefacts extrapolates narrow definitions imposed by social conventions about certain language uses (including grammar conventions) and communicative practices. This poses challenges to schools operating according to narrow, ideological conventions that may hurt students' abilities to use language, to communicate and to learn.
Rosemeiry Melo, Universidade Federal do Ceará, rmelo@ufc.brResumo. Studies have shown the benefits of mobile messages in education.Researchers argue that more studies must be conducted to assess the extension of these benefits, and to better identify in which context mobile messaging is the best approach to be applied. In this sense, our study examined a post-graduate class consisting of 474 learners in which Short Message Service was used. The main goal was to find out if this technology would improve student participation in the course. Two groups of learners were created and the results showed that students who received mobile messaging outperformed significantly students than did not receive. They were almost 20% more effective at completing their assigned activity and up to 78 hours faster than students from the control group.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
