Introdução: A analgesia de parto é um direito de toda mulher e oferecê-la é essencial conforme as boas práticas médicas na assistência ao parto. Há evidências de que a redução da dor impede o aumento exagerado da frequência cardíaca e da pressão arterial maternas. Sob esse panorama, as terapias complementares para alívio da dor (TCAD) no parto, como deambulação, cromoterapia, banho de aspersão, massagem, musicoterapia, bola suíça e aromaterapia, recebem destaque na assistência obstétrica humanizada. Alternativamente aos métodos farmacológicos, as TCAD apresentam a vantagem de não oferecerem tantos efeitos adversos e contraindicações. Além disso, essas técnicas permitem maior autonomia e postura ativa da mulher, elencando seu protagonismo no trabalho de parto. Objetivo: Avaliar o uso de métodos não farmacológicos para alívio da dor no trabalho de parto em uma maternidade. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo descritivo transversal, em que foram incluídas 96 parturientes de uma maternidade pública do Rio de Janeiro, realizado no período de agosto a novembro de 2019. As variáveis analisadas foram o uso de métodos não farmacológicos para alívio da dor durante o trabalho de parto e o tipo de método adotado. Foram utilizados, para tabulação de dados e análises estatísticas, os programas Microsoft Office Excel e R, respectivamente. Resultados e conclusão: Observou-se que em 85% (n=82) dos partos houve uso das TCAD, enquanto em 15% não houve (n=14). As três TCAD mais utilizadas, em ordem de frequência, foram: banho de aspersão (70,45%), deambulação (67,04%) e técnicas de respiração (46,6%), seguidas de massagem (10%), penumbra (8%), musicoterapia (7%), bola suíça (5%) e cromoterapia (5%). A média de TCAD utilizadas por parturiente foi de 4,3. O percentual de mulheres que utilizaram de uma a três TCAD em seu parto foi de 33,38% (n=33), de quatro a seis foi de 33,33% (n=32) e de sete a 10 foi de 17,71% (n=17). Também foi realizada uma análise referente à mediana do tempo de parto, que avaliou partos que utilizaram TCAD e partos que não as utilizaram e não apresentou resultado estatisticamente relevante (valor p=0,12). Observou-se que as TCAD foram amplamente utilizadas nos partos vaginais da maternidade em questão, de acordo com as recomendações da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) para a assistência respeitosa ao parto. A realização de estudos posteriores que descrevam condutas durante a assistência ao parto vaginal e seus benefícios para o trabalho de parto e para a experiência materna pode ser interessante para estimular a implementação dessas práticas em outros serviços de obstetrícia.
