A Fibrose Cística (FC), também conhecida como doença do beijo salgado ou mucoviscidose, é uma doença genética caracterizada por ser autossômica recessiva crônica e progressiva. É manifestada de forma mais comum em pessoas da cor branca atingindo ambos os sexos, e considerada uma doença rara por exibir baixa incidência na população mundial, porém, já foram observadas mais de 1800 mutações neste gene. O paciente com FC desenvolve secreções mucosas adensas e viscosas, causando obstrução dos ductos das glândulas exócrinas, que colaboram para a manifestação da doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica, insuficiência pancreática, provocando a má digestão e má absorção nutricional, por consequência o paciente pode apresentar desnutrição e níveis elevados de eletrólitos no suor. Essa doença apresenta alto índice de mortalidade e atualmente no Brasil, pode-se destacar providências para que o diagnóstico da FC seja avaliado precocemente na infância, seja pelos métodos na triagem neonatal ou pelo teste de suor os quais foram padronizadas ao longo do território nacional. Já o tratamento, é recomendavel ser iniciado imediatamente após o diagnóstico positivo, de modo individualizado respeitando a necessidade de cada paciente.
