Gamboa-Delgado EM, Domínguez-Urrego CL, Quintero-Lesmes DC. Waist-to-height ratio and its relation with cardiometabolic risk factors in children from Bucaramanga, Colombia. Nutr Hosp 2017;34:1338- Child. Metabolic syndrome X. Waistheight ratio. AbstractBackground: Currently, the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) has emerged as a practical and useful indicator for identifying cardiometabolic risk in child and adolescent population. Objective: To evaluate the association between the WHtR and cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) in a cohort of children in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study. Child population between 6-10 years old from Bucaramanga (n = 1,282). Dependent variables: hypertension, pre-hypertension, overweight/obesity, impaired glucose, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. Main independent variable: waist-toheight ratio. The association between dependent and independent variables was evaluated using binomial regression models. Results: 9.77% of the children presented a WHtR of risk (95% CI: 8.19% to 11.52%). After adjustment for age, sex, socioeconomic status and physical activity, the WHtR of risk was significantly associated with lower HDL levels and higher levels of triglycerides, insulin resistance, hypertension and pre-hypertension (PR = 2.46 95% CI :1.70 a 3.55, p = 0.000, PR = ...
Background The prevalence of excess weight and obesity in children has increased significantly worldwide. The concept of food addiction (FA) has been associated with eating-related problems and obesity. Studies on this topic have primarily examined adult samples and little is known about addictive-like eating among Mexican children and adolescents. Methods We conducted this study to examinate the prevalence of FA in a group of 291 overweight and obese children and adolescents using YFAS scale for children (YFAS-C) in Mexico. Results According to the YFAS-C approximately 14.4% of participants met for FA diagnosis. Forty-two (14.4%) received a FA diagnosis: 14 children and 28 adolescents. The number of FA symptoms in participants who received an FA diagnosis (M = 4.35, SD = 1.07) compared to participants with no FA diagnosis (M = 1.70, SD = 1.53) was significantly higher (p ≤ 0.001). There were no statistically significant gender differences and the proportion of subjects with an FA diagnosis did not differ by age between children and adolescents. FA is a focus of interest in attempting to explain certain behaviors that may contribute to the development of obesity and explain the failure of the weight loose programs in children.
This study attempted to assess the influence of knowledge management, organizational innovativeness, and adversity quotients manifested through the institutional performance. There are 221 local economic enterprise employees of the local government units in Bukidnon participated in the study, which employed a quantitative descriptive design, to evaluate the relationship between two or more variables as well as the multiple regression analysis in determining variables that predict institutional performance. Findings revealed that knowledge management, organizational innovativeness, and adversity quotient are predictors, positively correlated and have a statistically significant relationship to institutional performance. The overall predictive model is presented as follows; Institutional performance = 1.123 + 0.189*Ownership. The overall model tested was highly significant with F = 3.654, p=.000. The regression model further discloses that for every unit change in ownership, there is a corresponding increase by .189 of the institutional performance. Based on this result, the null hypothesis is rejected. The independent variable, taken as a whole, can predict the institutional performance of the local economic enterprise employees. The data implies that the higher level of ownership in adverse situations of the local economic enterprise employees, the more they have performed well in their institutional performance. Therefore, one of the practical implications of this result in the management of organizational innovation processes is that to manage the innovation process effectively, owners and, or managers need to understand knowledge management and innovativeness factors that affect different innovation types in their institutional performance.
