Um dos serviços mantidos por algumas Instituições Federais de Ensino Superior refere-se à alimentação dos discentes, realizada por um restaurante, que geralmente é mantido com recursos próprio da instituição. Objetivou-se avaliar a viabilidade de utilização dos campi da Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (UFRA) para produção de alimentos, visando abastecer o restaurante universitário do campus Belém. No estudo buscou-se conhecer a opinião dos usuários do restaurante universitário e verificou-se a quantidade de alimentos consumida (discriminados), a área total da UFRA com potencial para produção, a produtividade e o custo de produção de cada gênero de alimento. 90% dos estudantes aceitam produzir alimentos. A UFRA dispõe de 74 hectares para pecuária, 5,5 hectares para produção de arroz, 9,5 hectares para produção de feijão (caupi) e 7,5 hectares para produção de mandioca, existindo 19,5 hectares com possibilidade de produção de frutas e 7,5 hectares com potencial de produção de hortaliças; Na área da UFRA é possível produzir todo o alimento consumido no restaurante universitário, sendo viável a manutenção do restaurante universitário apenas com projetos que envolva os estudantes em tecnologia de produção, fortalecendo a relação teoria/prática de forma multidisciplinar.
