Las roturas en el concreto clasificadas de acuerdo con su espesor como fisuras o grietas, forman parte del cálculo estructural de cualquier obra civil, ya que se consideran como límites de servicio. Es necesario minimizar o erradicar la formación de grietas en el concreto, para garantizar el funcionamiento adecuado de la estructura diseñada y evitar daños futuros. Para mitigar estos daños se utilizan impermeabilizantes, inyecciones de resina, pastas, aditivos líquidos y en polvo. El objetivo de este trabajo es resaltar al bioconcreto como agente reparante de fisuras y grietas en estructuras de concreto sometidas a esfuerzos de compresión y tracción. Se presenta una revisión bibliográfica sobre el uso de bioconcretos para reparación de daños estructurales: síntesis, propiedades y sus aplicaciones. Se identifican sus ventajas y desventajas que ayudan a anticipar la aparición de estas roturas, con el uso de un agente bacteriano para incrementar la capacidad de autorreparación.
