Due to the effect of the current pandemic that the world is experiencing, the educational system swiftly remedied the problem of student learning. This study assessed the students' internet connection capability and the availability of learning devices at their homes. The researchers used a descriptive cross-sectional research design with the online survey as the primary tool for data gathering. Using a convenience sampling technique, this study garnered 2,894 responses from students at a local higher education institution in Central Luzon, Philippines. The study used a modified questionnaire and subjected the gathered data to simple statistical analysis. Based on the results of the survey, 70% of the students have internet access at home. On the other hand, smartphone tops the list of the learning devices that is available for learning for students. To conclude, the institution can therefore implement a flexible learning plan for the students especially this time of the pandemic period. In addition, the researchers also suggested some important recommendations in the learning system of the institution.
Instructor bullying in the higher institution is an area given with the least attention and significance in the local context since bullying is affixed and attributed to with the students only. This descriptive study aimed to determine the perception of students on instructor bullying in a local college in Zambales, Philippines. There were 110 respondents in the study who enrolled and studied in the academic year of 2017-2018, which were conveniently selected. An instrument was created by the researchers and subjected to validity and reliability to a panel of experts. The data were then tabulated and analyzed using SPSS 20. The study found that the respondents were moderately aware of instructor bullying by college students. There was also a significant difference found when respondents were grouped according to sex. The rest of the demographic variables like age, year level and college did not produce a significant result. The implications drawn from the study can be considered for the basis of the policy included in the student handbook.
This paper aims to present the community extension project of local higher education in Olongapo City, Philippines. The project entitled “Project Tubig Para sa Lahat (Water for All).” is a collaborative effort of the Gordon College – Community Extension Service Unit (GC –CESU) and different Non-Government Organizations (NGOs). The project's main objective is to provide a clean water storage for every household in a far-flung community in Olongapo City. This project is an initial step towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) mandate, in particular SDG 6. After a series of meetings, a strategic planning, and months of preparation, the project commenced. However, there were some challenges in the logistics due to the distance and terrain of the place. Nevertheless, the project was successful and turned over to the community as a sign of community engagement to all parties involved. The whole community has full access to the water tank project, and many households benefitted from the said project.
