Tumores mamários são as neoplasias mais frequentes em cadelas, e a terceira mais frequente em gatas. No presente estudo foram analisados prontuários médicos de pacientes do Hospital Veterinário da Univasf, em seu campus localizado em Petrolina -PE, com o intuito de conhecer a prevalência de tal enfermidade dentro da população local. No total foram analisados 2094 casos, dentre estes 134 relatavam tumores de mama, onde 121 foram identificados em caninos e apenas 13 em felinos. Foi feita então a avaliação do perfil dos animais acometidos, considerando fatores como a idade, raça e uso de contraceptivos, assim como a ocorrência de outros tumores. Verificou-se a predominância de tumores em animais de idade avançada, acima dos 10 anos, para ambas espécies. Apenas 35% dos animais que apresentavam neoplasia tinham sofrido tratamento prévio com progestágenos, contrariando a literatura que indica o uso desses medicamentos como um grande fator de risco no desenvolvimento de tumores mamários.
