Synopsis.-This paper describes the 1930 results (fifth consecu-and wave shapes of natural lightning surges both at and remote from tive year) of a lightning investigation conducted on 220-kv. lines the point of origin on the transmission line; numbers of phases located in eastern Pennsylvania and where lightning storms are faulted during trip-outs; numbers, magnitudes and effects of direct prevalent. During 1930 the investigation was expanded; two new lightning strokes; some data on the relative importance of induced devices, the surge (insulator assembly flashover) indicator and the strokes; results of measurements of atmospheric voltage gradients; lightning (storm) severity meter being successfully applied. and the indicated effect of overhead ground wires and tower footing Unique and comprehensive data were secured on the magnitudes resistances.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
