This paper is centered on the problem of the relationships between grammar didactics and language sciences. As a preliminary, it discusses the status of didactics, arguing that it is an integral part of human sciences, and examines the various possible meanings of the concept of "grammar". It then analyzes the history of the relationships between grammar teaching and theories of language, which unfold in particular in terms of content and disciplinary formats, describing and illustrating by speciic examples two opposite movements: the decisive inluence of didactic decisions on certain modes of syntactic analysis; the impact of the emergence of a new general linguistics on the conception of grammar and grammar teaching. Finally, focusing on the current situation of the interactions between these two areas, it highlights a number of factors contributing to the disorder and the current inconsistency in the transposition process, and recalls the principles and guidelines that could lead to a true reconiguration of grammatical teaching.
