Article HistoryThe purpose of this study was to examine processes experienced by students of different achievement levels in small group discussions in argumentation applications conducted in scientific and socio-scientific issues. Case study which is a qualitative research design was used for the study. In this line, a success test including mechanical subjects comprising multiple-choice and open-ended questions was applied to students by researches in the beginning of semester. Looking at points taken from the success test, student levels (high, medium and low) were determined and groups were formed in accordance with these levels. One group was selected from each level representing that level, and processes experienced by discussions relating to scientific issue as well as socio-scientific issue were individually examined. Study group consisted of 10 preservice teachers having education in Department of Science Teaching. Voice records of both issues were taken during student discussions and analyzed by transcription. Codes prepared by the researchers (cause-effect relationship, using clues, proposing suggestions, prediction, deduction etc.) were combined under certain categories and entitled. As a consequence, it was revealed that students were more effective in supporting argumentation process in non-scientific issue with respect to scientific issue; and in terms of evaluation, metacognition and process management, students were more effective in scientific issue with respect to nonscientific issue. Moreover, it was seen that students were more effective in nonscientific issue with respect to scientific issue in scientific process skills. When student-student questions were examined, there were more questions in scientific issue in the low-level; and there were more questions in non-scientific issue in the medium level.
ÖZ. Bu çalışmanın amacı, yıldız kavramıyla ilgili yurt içi kaynaklı çalışmaları çözümleyerek bir bütünlük içinde yansıtmak ve bu anlamda farkındalık oluşturmaktır. Bu amaçla, 2001-2014 yılları arasında yapılan çalışmalardan yıldız kavramını konu alan 39 çalışma tematik analizden geçirilmiştir. Çalışmada doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yıldız kavramına yönelik olarak gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar, oluşturulan matristen yararlanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, genelde astronomi konusu altında yıldızlara yer verildiği ve yayınlanan çalışma sayısının 2010 yılından itibaren bir artış gösterdiği, örneklemlerin ise belirli illerde yoğunlaştığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yöntem çeşitliliğinin fazla olduğu, veri toplama aracı olarak en fazla çoktan seçmeli başarı testlerinin, analiz yöntemi olarak da f/yüzde/aritmetik ortalama istatistiklerinin çoğunlukla kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. İncelenen çalışmaların bulgularında genellikle alternatif fikirleri belirten ifadeler vurgulanmış, diğer çalışmalarda da yıldızlara ilişkin öğrenme güçlüklerini gösteren ifadelere yer verilmiştir. Çalışmalardan elde edilen sonuçların genelinde de yıldızlar konusunda yeterli bilgiye sahip olunmadığı belirtilmiştir. İncelenen çalışmalarda sunulan önerilerin büyük çoğunluğunda her gruba yönelik sunulduğu belirlenmiştir. The aim of this study was to reflect the integrity of studies about the star concept by analysing domestic-sourced studies and raise awareness in this sense. This paper was restricted only with the 39 research studies that are about stars between the years 2001-2014. Therefore, the studies had a thematic analysis in accordance with the questions. Document analysis used in this research. All studies were analysed using the matrix. As a result of research, it has been reached that stars took place under the astronomy topic and the number of published studies showed an increase from 2010, the samples are concentrated in certain provinces. It was determined that the method is more diversity, multiple-choice achievement tests is used maximum as a data collection tool, f/percent/ arithmetic average statistics are used commonly as the analysis method. The findings obtained from studies usually written on qualifications expressed alternative ideas. It is devoted to expressing signs of learning difficulties related to the stars in other studies. Results of the studies generally achieved that star subjects are not known sufficiently. There have been suggestions in the review of studies, most of them for both groups. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of Science achievements in Life Studies Course Curricula of 2009, 2015 and 2018 regarding the knowledge and cognitive process dimensions of the Revised Bloom Taxonomy and to comparatively examine the resulting distributions. This study adopted document analysis. While conducting the analysis, we classified the achievements as factual knowledge, conceptual knowledge, operational knowledge and metacognitive knowledge in the accumulation of knowledge dimension and as remembering, understanding, applying, solving, evaluating and creating in the cognitive process dimension. Based on our findings, we concluded that achievements of 2009, 2015 and 2018 curricula focused on remembering, understanding and applying levels in the cognitive dimension and factual and conceptual knowledge dimensions in the knowledge dimension. We present some recommendations for teachers and teacher candidates, which they can use while preparing their lesson plans.
The aim of this research on an astronomy course is to examine the situations that arose when WhatsApp, a social media application, was used as a tool for cooperation and interaction. In this work, a case study design was adopted. The WhatsApp group created for the research was composed of 87 participants and the messages exchanged in the WhatsApp group were used as research documents. Data were analyzed through descriptive and content analysis methods. The sharing in the WhatsApp group and the topics of the messages were revealed in the content analysis. The research results showed that the students used the WhatsApp group as an interaction tool in an extracurricular environment. It was also determined that they used this platform in order to inform each other about daily events and share and discuss information.
