A meta-analysis is a statistical analysis of the data from some collection of studies in order to synthesize the results. In this paper we discuss issues that frequently arise in meta-analysis and give an overview of the methods used, with particular attention to the use of fixed- and random-effects approaches. The methods are then applied to two sample datasets.
We consider a legislation-driven recycling network treating discarded products. Our goal is to develop a decentralised coordination mechanism that allows the network to comply with requirements given by environmental legislation, existing for Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Two decision levels are identified. Tactical decisions concern the negotiation of frame contracts between a focal company representing the network, and the recycling companies for a defined period of time. According to these frame contracts, current orders are assigned to recycling companies and an operational coordination may be applied to (re-)allocate parts of the order in the network. The mechanisms are outlined conceptionally and their interaction is described.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
