Die uberlagerten CH,/CH,-Absorptionen der Polyethylenkette im Bereich von 1330 bis 1 400 cm-l werden durch Vorgabe einer geeigneten Linienformfunktion in die Einzelkomponenten zerlegt. Der Komplex besteht aus funf Teilbanden, zwei werden den Schwingungen der Methylgruppe zugeordnet. Ursache dafur ist die unterschiedliche Lange der kurzen Seitenketten im Hochdruckpolyethylen. Weitere spektrale Grooen, die das Bandenprofil und damit auch die Konzentration der anteiligen Strukturen im Komplex bestimmen, werden mitgeteilt. I m Ergebnis dcr Untersuchungen erhalt man neben der Aussage uber die Gesamtverzweigung eine weitere Information uber den Anteil an Ethylverzweigungen im Produkt. Separation of methyl bands from the overall absorption at 1330 to 1400 cm-' in the I R spectrum of polyethyleneBased on an appropriate line shape function the superposition of CH, and CH, absorptions of polyethylene between 1330 and 1400 cm-l was separated into five constitutive bands, two of them being assigned t o methyl vibrations. The different length of short branches in liigh pressure polyethylene enables this separation. Additional characteristics of the line shape and, thus, the fraction of contributing structurcs are discusscd. As a result, the overall branchings and the fraction of ethyl branchings are discerned.
