RESUMO: O sistema de irrigação localizada apresenta inúmeras vantagens em relação a outros métodos de irrigação, entretanto uma das desvantagens desse sistema que restringe sua utilização por grande parte dos pequenos e médios agricultores está relacionada ao seu alto custo de implantação. Uma das medidas para reduzir o custo de implantação é usar o máximo comprimento possível para a linha lateral sem comprometer o desempenho hidráulico do sistema. Para isso desenvolveu-se um algoritmo computacional, aplicado através do Visual Basic Application, em função das características hidráulicas dos emissores e da tubulação. O algoritmo é baseado no dimensionamento pelo método trecho-a-trecho, utilizando a equação de Darcy-Weisbach, para calcular a perda de carga contínua e a equação cinética para determinar a perda localizada de carga. O programa mostrou-se simples e de fácil aplicação, podendo auxiliar os técnicos no dimensionamento mais econômico das linhas laterais em projetos de sistema de irrigação localizada.
