El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) es una afección relacionada con los trastornos del neurodesarrollo, se presenta en edades tempranas y dura toda la vida. Las personas con TEA manifiestan deficiencias en el funcionamiento personal y social; el rango de afectación va a variar en cada individuo y va desde limitaciones muy específicas del aprendizaje hasta funciones globales como las habilidades sociales. Hasta la fecha no se conocen con exactitud las causas etiológicas que lo provocan ni existe tratamiento que defina la cura, por tal razón, los padres con hijos diagnosticados con TEA se ven seriamente afectados emocionalmente. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar psicológicamente las implicaciones emocionales (ansiedad, depresión, estrés) de los padres con hijos con Trastorno del Espectro Autista.
