Im folgenden mSchte ich mir, vielfach angeregt durch das neueste Werk Ribbertsl), einige Bemerkungea hinsichtlich der Histogenese des Krebses, des Polymorphismus der Krebszellen, der Klassifikation der Krebse iiberhaupt, der Benennung, des Vorkommens und Entstehens der Basalzellenkrebse im besonderen erlauben und zugleich aueh einige, auf die Morphologie der Krebse beziigliche Beobachtungen mitteilen.
Hierzu Taf. IX--X.) Nachdem die pflanzliche und thierische Zelle entdeckt war, galt es, den Begriff der Zelle zu pr~cisiren, d. h. dieselbe zu definiren. Selbstverst~ndlich konnte dies nur durch Aufz~hlung der wesentlichen Bestandtheile einer Zelle gesehehen. Doch eben die Frage, ob das Protoplasma, die Zellmembran oder der Kern das Wesen der Zelle ausmachen, blieb lange Zeit hindurch trotz eingehenden Studiums namhafter Forscher (Schwann, Virchow, Bischoff, KSlliker, Dujardin, Schulze, Brficke u. s. w.) unaufgekl'~rt, da bei den verschiedenartigsten Zellen bald dieser, bald jener Bestandtheil pri~valirte oder vermisst wurde. Viele ahnten es zwar, dass im Zellleben der Kern das Wesentliche sei, doch die Bedenken, die andererseits hiegegen zu Felde gefiihrt wurden, konnten blos durch die Erkenntniss und Beweisfiihrung dessert beseitigt werden, dass eben dem Kerne beim Befruchtungs-und Vermehrungsprozesse der organischen Wesen die Hauptrolle zukomme. So gelangte nun der Kern zu seinem Rechte und heute gilt es als feststehend, dass der Kern --als wesentlichster Bestandtheil der Zelles~mmtliche Umwandlungsprozesse der Thiere und Pfianzen vermittelt. Was Wunder daher, dass man sich mit dem Zellkern als mit einem Dinge, welches die Entwickelung und Fortbildung des Individuums demonstrirt, --eingehender besch~iftigte und dessen
Seit Reclus im Jahre 1860 das nach ihm bezeichnete Krankheitsbild der ,,Maladie kystique de la mamelle" beschrieben hat, wurde dasselbe vielfach bearbeitet und versehiedentlich gedeutet. K6nig legt bekanntlich auf die kleinzellige Infiltration des Bindegewebes das Hauptgewicht und bezeichnet die Krankheit als ..Mastiiis chronica cystica", Schimmelbusch l~t die Cysten durch Wueherung des Driisengewebes entstehen und erblickt in dem ,,Cystadenom" eine wahre Geschwulst. Wi~hrend sich ein Teil der spi~teren Forscher der Auffassung yon K6nig, ein anderer der von Schimmelbusch ansehloB, nimmt Sa~se einen vermittelnden Standpunkt ein, indem seiner Meinung nach ein Teil der Cysten auf entziindlicher Basis entsteht, andere als Cystom oder Pol]]cysiom bezeiehnete Cysten hingegen wahren Cystadenomen entspreehen. Die Beobachtung, dal~ in der Wand der Cysten neben den yon Saaz beschriebenen ,,blassen Epithelien" mitunter auch spindelige Mus/celzellen anzutreffen sind und diese in vereinzelten F~llen eine durchaus der Spindelzellenschieht der Achselschwei[3dri~sen entspreehende M~chtigkeit und Lagerung erkennen lassen: veranla~te mich. die Cysten-Mamma als eine Bildungsanomalie, als eine /ehlerha/te Bildung vom Typus der Schwei~drfisencysten hinzustellen und als Polycystoma resp. Hidrocystoma zu bezeichnen. Zur Begrfindung dieser meiner Auffassung wies ich darauf hin, daft ja die Brustdri~se phylogenetisch aus einer Schweifidri~se hervorgegangen ist und so die fehlerhafte Ausbildung einer atavistisehen Erscheinung en~spreehe. Im Sinne einer bereits yon Bloodgood und Theile angeregten und yon Bertels. Lukows~y, Consten weiter entwiekelten Theorie endlich handle es sieh bei der in Rede stehenden Affektion um eine di/]use ~ibromatose der Mamma. Ein chronischer Reizzustand, weleher zu den physiologisehen Rfickbitdungsvorg~ngen in einiger Beziehung steht, fiihre zu einer nicht entzi~ndlichen Wucherung des Bindegewebes, und in den hierdurch entstandenen Retentionscysten komme es einerseits Virchows Archiv.
