Beim Studium der Umwandlungsreaktionen instabiler Verbindungen, die in der Kälte photochemisch zugänglich sind, liefert die Differential‐Thermo‐Analyse wertvolle Information. Es wird ein Differential‐Calorimeter beschrieben, das mit einfachen Reagensgläsern in einem Aluminium‐Block die calorimetrische und kinetische Untersuchung von Lösungsreaktionen zwischen −140 und +90 °C gestattet. Qualitativ können bei einer Reaktionswärme von 20 kcal/Mol noch Umwandlungen von rd. 5 · 10−6 Mol Substanz erkannt werden. Am Beispiel der Diazotierung einiger aromatischer Amine und der N2‐Abspaltung aus den gebildeten Diazonium‐Verbindungen werden der Einfluß der Aufheizgeschwindigkeit geprüft und die Reaktionswärmen, Aktivierungswärmen und Aktionskonstanten berechnet. Als Reaktion in der Kälte wurde die pseudomonomolekulare Zersetzung des monomeren Photoperoxydsdes Furans in Methanol untersucht, die bereits bei −20 °C beginnt.
