Summary. The temperature rise at the root surface during thermo‐mechanical root canal obturation was studied in vitro in 15 human teeth. The mean temperature elevation at a point 5 mm coronal to the apex was found to be 35°C. The impact of the results on the periodontal tissues during conditions in vivo are discussed.
