ter diferentes aplicações e isso está diretamente ligado ao conceito Biorrefinaria, que integra processos de conversão de biomassa para produzir uma gama de produtos a partir de biomassas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi produzir e caracterizar metilcelulose, um derivado químico da fração celulósica do bagaço de cana, que pode ter aplicações nas indústrias alimentícias, farmacêuticas e de construção civil, devido a sua ação como espessante, emulsificante e estabilizante. Para a síntese deste material inicialmente realizou-se um processo de mercerização com a celulose previamente purificada e, em seguida, a celulose mercerizada foi eterificada utilizando sulfato de metila como agente substituinte e acetona como solvente. A reação foi repetida, totalizando 2 ciclos de 1,5 horas. Por fim, o material foi neutralizado, lavado e seco. Após caracterização e comparação com produtos comerciais, constatou-se que foi possível produzir metilcelulose a partir de celulose segregada e purificada provinda de bagaço de canade-açúcar, demonstrando um potencial aumento no valor agregado do bagaço de cana.
RESUMO -Nas empresas que possuem fornos rotativos de calcinação os maiores custos são os combustíveis, sendo atualmente empregado o coque de petróleo e moinha de carvão vegetal como fonte de energia. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a aplicação da casca e dos finos residuais do beneficiamento do café como combustíveis em fornos rotativos de calcinação, considerando as propriedades físicas e químicas destes materiais. Foram criados 22 cenários com misturas combustíveis diferentes (coque, moinha, casca e finos), dentre eles, cinco se mostraram mais vantajosos. A maior redução do custo mensal (8,02%) foi obtida com o emprego de 50% coque e 50% finos nos fornos. A incorporação dessas diferentes biomassas se mostrou eficiente quanto ao aumento do poder de ignição do combustível. Assim, pode se afirmar que o uso de resíduos do café é uma alternativa econômica, sustentável, além de proporcionar maior flexibilidade ao processo.
