Complex motion of water resulting from the interaction of waves and currents is observed in estuaries of large rivers and at their outlets to seas and oceans, as well as in straits. The theory of interaction of a turbulent flow and waves and especially sediment transport by such a flow is still insufficiently developed, whereasproblems of the movement of sediments in the shore zone and river mouths have paramount importance when developing these zones and in hydrotechnical and resort construction.Becoming especially urgent is the problem of developing rivers by cascades of reservoirs, which disturbs the equilibrium established over the course of millenia and changes the sediment regime and topography of the shore zone and mouth stretches.Prediction of sediment drifting in the mouth and its distribution in the beach zone under conditions of a deficit of entry of river sediments into the mouth is becoming especially urgent.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
