Твердые частицы (ТЧ) размером <10 мкм представляют собой неоднородную группу объектов, способных проникать в дыхательные пути человека. Настоящее исследование направлено на выделение образцов грубых и ультрадисперсных ТЧ на некотором расстоянии от предприятий добычи угля открытым способом (1-1,5 км от границы карьеров за пределами санитарно-защитной зоны). ТЧ были выделены и сконцентрированы из образцов снега, что позволило аккумулировать относительно большое количество ультрадисперсных частиц (50-60 мг) с пяти объектов: трех разрезов (Р1, Р2, Р3), угольной электростанции (Т) и двух контрольных территорий (К1, К2). Токсичность оценивали в альвеолярных эпителиоцитах карциномы человека А549 после шестичасового контакта in vitro с образцами ТЧ. Пролиферация клеток А549, подвергшихся воздействию образцов ТЧ0,1, была значительно ниже (p<0,01) в пробах Р2, Р3 и Т, чем у клеток, экспонированных воздействию ТЧ-10 в той же концентрации. Образцы ТЧ0,1 в пробах Т, К1 и К2 показали повышенный уровень повреждений (микроядра, ‰) по сравнению с образцами ТЧ10. Полученные данные были сопоставлены с проведенным ранее анализом фракционного и химического состава ТЧ. Результаты исследования показывают, что ультрадисперсные частицы ТЧ0,1 заслуживают особого внимания как биологический агент, отличный от более крупных ТЧ. Их токсичность может быть вызвана физико-химическими свойствами кристаллической фазы, а не специфическими компонентами источника загрязнения.
