In stature estimation, long limbs and the stature formula of Trotter and Gleser easily come to mind. In the recent past, a lot of workers have established formulae specific to their populations using whole length of limbs, fragmented bones, circumference of long bones, and even length of the vertebrae. We have in this work used tibia length, height of subjects, and the regression models to establish formulae specific to Nigerians. We measured height and tibia length of 200 (96 male and 104 female) adult Nigerians. The tibia length was measured from upper limit of the medial condoyle to the tip of medial malleolus using a measuring tape calibrated in meters while the height of individuals were also measured using meter scales. All measurements were made by one person, to avoid interobserver error, and repeatedly until a constant value is obtained. We obtained general formulae for males and females which compares favorably with that of Duyar and Pelin, and can be relied upon.
In a view to obtain a new distribution that is more exible than the type I generalized half logistic distribution, we used the beta-G generator and the type I generalized half logistic distribution. Some properties of the new distribution including the cummulative distribution function, survival function, hazard function were studied. Estimation of parameters were done using the maximum likelihood estimation method. Application of the derived distribution to lifetime data was illustrated by applying to remission times of bladder cancer patient data and survival times of guinea pigs.
The coefficient of determination is a function of residuals in the General Linear Models. The deviance, logit, standardized and the studentized residuals were examined in generalized linear models in order to determine the behaviour of residuals in this class of models and thereby design a new pseudo R-squared goodness-of-fit measure. The Newton-Raphson estimation procedure was adopted. It was observed that these residuals exhibit patterns that are unique to the subpopulations defined by levels of categorical predictors. Residuals block on the basis of signs, where positive signs indicate success responses and negative signs failure responses. It was also observed that the deviance is a close approximation of the studentized residual. The logit residual is two times the size of the standardized residuals. Borrowing from the Nagelkerke's improvement of Cox and Snell's goodness-of-fit measure in generalized linear models and the coefficient of determination counterpart of the general linear model, a new pseudo R squared goodness-of-fit test which uses predicted probabilities and a monotonic link function is here proposed to serve both the linear and Generalized Linear Models
In this work, a new family of distributions, which extends the Beta transmuted family, was obtained, called the Modified Beta Transmuted Family of distribution. This derived family has the Beta Family of Distribution and the Transmuted family of distribution as subfamilies. The Modified beta transmuted frechet, modified beta transmuted exponential, modified beta transmuted gompertz and modified beta transmuted lindley were obtained as special cases. The analytical expressions were studied for some statistical properties of the derived family of distribution which includes the moments, moments generating function and order statistics. The estimates of the parameters of the family were obtained using the maximum likelihood estimation method. Using the exponential distribution as a baseline for the family distribution, the resulting distribution (modified beta transmuted exponential distribution) was studied and its properties. The modified beta transmuted exponential distribution was applied to a real life time data to assess its flexibility in which the results shows a better fit when compared to some competitive models.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
