In this review, some suggestions will be made as to what we must do, or continue to do, to keep vegetable diseases under control. The word “stable” will be emphasized throughout. Most of the examples are from tomato diseases, although equally good or better ones could probably be found in other crops. My main experience, however, has been with tomato and especially with leaf mold. The gene-for-gene designation of leaf mold races will be used, although it is too complicated for day-to-day use.
