Leaf is a key functional traits that shows respond of changes in plant physiology. This experiment aimed to study the changes on the leaf traits of loquat seedling that treated with plant growth regulators (PGRs). Three types of PGRs, auxin (naphthalene acetic acid/NAA), gibberellin (gibberellic acid/GA3) and cytokinin (benzylaminopurine/BA) with four doses (0, 25, 50, 100 ppm) were sprayed onto the leaves of loquat seedling. We observed nine parameters, PGRs treatments were significantly affecting eight parameters, while there were one parameter is not significantly affected. The results showed that either in mature or young leaves, PGRs treatments were significantly affecting in eight parameters the growth and development of leaves, such as leaf surface area, specific leaf area, fresh and dry weight leaf, water content, number of stomata, size of stomata, chlorophyll and transpiration rate compared to control. These results gave general view that PGRs treatment might stimulate leaf growth and development including photosynthesis and respiration. However, PGRs was not significantly affecting the number of stomata in young leaves. The application of PGRs doses was not always inline with the mean value of each parameters and it could be linear or quadratic models. The findings of this research could provide the recommendation for application of PGRs during seedling growth, and theoretical basis for comparison between mature and young leaves after PGRs application.
Loquat is an important commercial crop in several countries. Seedling growth was affecting the production of loquat. Fertilizers and plant growth regulators was an important factors to obtain the high quality seedling. This experiment aimed to determine the effects of fertilizers and plant growth regulators on loquat seedling growth. Two doses of compound fertilizers (5 and 10 gram/polybag) with two times of application and three types of plant growth regulators (naphthalene acetic acid/auxin, gibberellic acid/gibberellin, benzylaminopurine/cytokinin) with four doses (0, 25, 50, 100 ppm) were applied to the seedling of loquat. Fifteen parameters i.e. plant height, number of mature and young leaves, number of buds, stem diameter, roots length, leaf surface area of mature and young leaves, fresh and dry weight of leaves, stem, and roots, and total biomass were observed during the experiment. Twenty combination treatments between fertilizers and plant growth regulators gave difference response on loquat seedling. In general, the best treatment is the combination between 5 gr/pot of fertilizers and 100 ppm of cytokinin. Although fertilizers was not significantly affecting the loquat seedling growth, and plant growth regulators was affecting some parameters, the interactions of fertilizers and plant growth regulators was significantly affecting the loquat seedling growth, and almost all parameters has correlated. Our recommendation, the application of plant growth regulators during seedling growth was more effective and efficient than fertilizers.
One of the main task of Cibodas Botanical Garden (CBG) is to conserve the Indonesian plants species. Moreover, the preservation and enrichment of threatened plant collections based on IUCN red list categories became an important programme for plants conservation in CBG. The aims of this study are to inventory threatened plant collections and to review the status of CBG threatened plant collections. List of threatened plant collections was gathered from SINDATA, a system developed by CBG. The collection, was reviewed by inspecting current collections in CBG. Literature study was done to review the conservation status of the threatened plant collections. The conservation status was checked in IUCN red list website. The results shown that CBG had collected 86 species of threatened plants, which is 13 Critically Endangered (CR) species, 39 Endangered (EN) species, and 34 Vulnerable (VU) species. Critically endangered category consists of 13 species belong to 8 families and 10 genus. Endangered category consists of 39 species belong to 17 families and 34 genus. Vulnerable category consists of 34 species belong to 27 families and 28 genus. The largest collections of threatened species was genus Nepenthes, which is 16% (14 species) from the total threatened species in CBG. Furthermore, CBG had succeeded in collecting 40 species of Indonesian native plants in which Dipterocarpaceae species were dominate the collection with 7 species. These species are listed as critically endangered (3 species) and endangered (4 species).
