This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the health literacy levels and healthy lifestyle behaviors of the nursing students. The sample of the study consisted of 241 students. An online form was used to collect the data, using a personal information form, the adult health literacy scale, and the healthy lifestyle behaviors scale II. Statistical tests including descriptive, comparative and correlational analysis were used in the analysis of the data. The average age of the participants is 20.57±1.4. Participants' mean score from the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II is 135.89±21.7 and the average score they got from the Adult Health Literacy Scale is 9±2.3. In the study, it was determined that the scores that students got from the scale of healthy lifestyle behaviors belonged to the sub-dimensions of physical activity (18.97±5.5) and stress management (20.46±4.0). As a result of the research, it was determined that the health literacy and health-promoting life behaviors of nursing students were low level. Students with health literacy level as for the improvement of healthy lifestyle behaviors in universities in Turkey "health promoting universities" to assume the mission projects are proposed to be carried out.
Early marriages/child marriages, defined as formal marriages or informal unions before age 18, have been studied within other adolescence issues in Turkey. Adolescence pregnancies resulting from early marriages in Turkey should not be evaluated without considering the socio-cultural context. This is because this problem occurs mostly under the marriage structure even if it is too early (under the age of 18) and families approve of such marriages. The purpose of this study is to discuss adolescent pregnancies as a result of early marriages in Turkey in accordance with the socio-cultural context pertaining to the social structure of Turkey.
Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between mothers’ parental bonding styles and their maternal attachment levels. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study involved 216 mothers. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Maternal Attachment Inventory (MAI), and the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI). Results: The mean MAI score of the mothers was found to be 96.72 ± 8.75 which indicated a high level of maternal attachment. The mean score from the PBI-mother form was found to be 49.13 ± 14.60 and PBI-father form was 46.12 ±14.90 which indicated that the mothers had a positive bonding with their parents. The relationship between an individual’s maternal attachment was found to be positive, moderate, and significant to her own parental bonding. Parental bonding with mother and parental bonding with father explained 35% and 23% of the total variance found in maternal attachment, respectively. Conclusion: Mothers’ parental bonding showed an effect on their maternal attachment as well. The families and couples should be trained on how positive or negative bonding with their children can affect their life cycles and future lives.
Objective: This study was conducted on the Turkish validity and reliability study of the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLq) in young adults. Methods: This methodological investigation was carried out throughout the 2018–2019 academic year at a public university. The MHL, created by Dias et al. in 2018, and a sociodemographic data form were used to gather the data. 350 students between the ages of 18 and 25 participated in the study. Results: The scale was translated from the original language into Turkish, professional opinion was sought, and to translate it into Turkish, a pilot study was conducted. The content validity index, confirmatory factor analysis, item analyses, reliability, Cronbach's alpha analysis, and test-retest scores were used to test the scale validity as well as its construct validity, internal consistency, and time invariance. The scale is four-dimensional, as was found. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the scale's item loads varied between 0.40 and 0.73 while its content validity was 0.98. Its 0.91 Cronbach's alpha value was discovered. The participants' average mental health literacy scores were 84.45±7.80. Conclusions: The analyses made showed that the MHLq could be safely used as a measurement tool for young adults’ mental health literacy.
