En el presente artículo se analizarán los murales que ejecutó José Renau en Halle-Neustadt para identificar los aspectos sociales, ideológicos y pedagógicos de la época, así como el impacto de la experiencia que tuvo Renau al pintar en México con David Alfaro Siqueiros y en el Casino de la Selva, entre otros elementos que nos permitirá comprobar los cambios y continuidades que se dieron entre las obras de ambos países. Además, identificar los murales como una herramienta que permitió reafirmar y legitimar a uno de los regímenes dictatoriales más duro del bloque soviético, al que Renau se adaptó sin problema debido a sus convicciones comunistas. En este sentido, se dará una aportación significativa a la historiografía de la obra mural de Renau en la RDA, rescatando su importancia como parte del patrimonio cultural alemán y como extensión del muralismo mexicano, así como las aportaciones que dio a esta corriente artística.
El libro "Cultura visual y fotografía durante la revolución en Sinaloa. Imágenes y significados de la guerra y la sociedad 1911-1914" de Diana María Perea Romo abordó la cultura visua y la cultura de las imágenes para advertir cómo se va construyendo la realidad de los sonorenses durante los primeros años de la Revolución Mexicana, cuyos individuos creían que eran el reflejo exacto de ésta sin cuestionar los diferentes elementos que utilizaban los fotógrafos para la construcción de las imágenes.
Se analizará el proyecto muralístico que José Renau llevó acabo en el Casino de la Selva por encargo de Manuel Suárez en 1944, el cual consistió en pintar la cantina y el salón de fiestas. El objetivo consiste en rescatar la importancia de esta comisión e identificar los cambios que Renau hizo en España hacia América para dar origen a la versión actual e identificarlo como parte de una propuesta mural que no se concluyó debido a que Renau y Suárez rompieron relaciones. Asimismo, demostrar las aportaciones que dio Renau al muralismo mexicano a través de la escenificación de la conquista de América que contrasta con la visión de Diego Rivera en los murales de Palacio de Hernán Cortes.
