We calculate the light hadron spectrum in full QCD using two plus one flavor Asqtad sea quarks and domain wall valence quarks. Meson and baryon masses are calculated on a lattice of spatial size L ≈ 2.5 fm, and a lattice spacing of a ≈ 0.124 fm, for pion masses as light as mπ ≈ 300 MeV, and compared with the results by the MILC collaboration with Asqtad valence quarks at the same lattice spacing. Two-and three-flavor chiral extrapolations of the baryon masses are performed using both continuum and mixed-action heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. Both the threeflavor and two-flavor functional forms describe our lattice results, although the low-energy constants from the next-to-leading order SU (3) fits are inconsistent with their phenomenological values. Nextto-next-to-leading order SU (2) continuum formulae provide a good fit to the data and yield and extrapolated nucleon mass consistent with experiment, but the convergence pattern indicates that even our lightest pion mass may be at the upper end of the chiral regime. Surprisingly, our nucleon masses are essentially lineaer in mπ over our full range of pion masses, and we show this feature is common to all recent dynamical calculations of the nucleon mass. The origin of this linearity is not presently understood, and lighter pion masses and increased control of systematic errors will be needed to resolve this puzzling behavior.
We perform a non-perturbative lattice calculation of the P-wave pion-pion scattering phase in the ρ-meson decay channel using two flavors of maximally twisted mass fermions at pion masses ranging from 480 MeV to 290 MeV. Making use of finite-size methods, we evaluate the pion-pion scattering phase in the center-of-mass frame and two moving frames. Applying an effective range formula, we find a good description of our results for the scattering phase as a function of the energy covering the resonance region. This allows us to extract the ρ-meson mass and decay width and to study their quark mass dependence.
We present a comprehensive study of the lowest moments of nucleon generalized parton distributions in N f = 2 + 1 lattice QCD using domain wall valence quarks and improved staggered sea quarks. Our investigation includes helicity dependent and independent generalized parton distributions for pion masses as low as 350 MeV and volumes as large as (3.5 fm) 3 , for a lattice spacing of 0.124 fm. We use perturbative renormalization at one-loop level with an improvement based on the non-perturbative renormalization factor for the axial vector current, and only connected diagrams are included in the isosinglet channel.
Calculation of moments of generalized parton distributions in lattice QCD requires more powerful techniques than those previously used to calculate moments of structure functions. Hence, we present a novel approach that exploits the full information content from a given lattice configuration by measuring an overdetermined set of lattice observables to provide maximal statistical constraints on the generalized form factors at a given virtuality, t. In an exploratory investigation using unquenched QCD configurations at intermediate sea quark masses, we demonstrate that our new technique is superior to conventional methods and leads to reliable numerical signals for the n = 2 flavor singlet generalized form factors up to 3 GeV 2 . The contribution from connected diagrams in the flavor singlet sector to the total quark angular momentum is measured to an accuracy of the order of one percent.
We present a reliable nonperturbative calculation of the QCD correction, at leading order in the electromagnetic coupling, to the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron, muon, and tau leptons using two-flavor lattice QCD. We use multiple lattice spacings, multiple volumes, and a broad range of quark masses to control the continuum, infinite-volume, and chiral limits. We examine the impact of the commonly ignored disconnected diagrams and introduce a modification to the previously used method that results in a well-controlled lattice calculation. We obtain 1.513(43)×10(-12), 5.72(16)×10(-8), and 2.650(54)×10(-6) for the leading-order two-flavor QCD correction to the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron, muon, and tau, respectively, each accurate to better than 3%.
We present a four-flavour lattice calculation of the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarisation contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, a hvp µ , arising from quark-connected Feynman graphs. It is based on ensembles featuring N f = 2+1+1 dynamical twisted mass fermions generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC). Several light quark masses are used in order to yield a controlled extrapolation to the physical pion mass. We employ three lattice spacings to examine lattice artefacts and several different volumes to check for finite-size effects. Incorporating the complete first two generations of quarks allows for a direct comparison with phenomenological determinations of a hvp µ . Our final result including an estimate of the systematic uncertainty a hvp µ = 6.74(21)(18) · 10 −8 shows a good overall agreement with these computations.
We present the first lattice QCD calculation with realistic sea quark content of the D+-meson decay constant f(D+). We use the MILC Collaboration's publicly available ensembles of lattice gauge fields, which have a quark sea with two flavors (up and down) much lighter than a third (strange). We obtain f(D+)=201+/-3+/-17 MeV, where the errors are statistical and a combination of systematic errors. We also obtain f(Ds)=249+/-3+/-16 MeV for the Ds meson.
