RESUMOEste estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a durabilidade natural das madeiras de Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus robusta, Eucalyptus tereticornis e Hovenia dulcis submetidas ao ensaio de apodrecimento acelerado em laboratório com os fungos Gloeophyllum trabeum, causador de podridão parda; e Trametes versicolor, causador de podridão branca. As amostras permaneceram durante 12 semanas em contato com os fungos e após calcularam-se as porcentagens de perda de massa, classificadas quanto ao grau de resistência natural e avaliadas quanto ao índice de susceptibilidade ao ataque. As médias dos resultados foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de significância. A madeira de Eucalyptus robusta foi classificada como resistente e Hovenia dulcis como não resistente para ambos os fungos. O índice de susceptibilidade ao ataque indicou que as espécies estudadas apresentaram valores aceitáveis, sendo mais resistentes ao ataque dos fungos em relação às espécies de referência (Pinus sp.; Cecropia sp.).Palavras-chave: biodeterioração da madeira, perda de massa, durabilidade natural. Natural Resistance of Four Forest Species Submitted to Test with Decay Fungi ABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate the natural durability of Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus robusta, Eucalyptus tereticornis and Hovenia dulcis woods subjected to accelerated testing in laboratory with rotting fungi Gloeophyllum trabeum, causer of brown rot; and Trametes versicolor, causer of white rot. The samples remained 12 weeks in contact with the fungi, after that, we calculated the percentages of mass loss, classified according to the degree of natural resistance and assessed according to the rate of susceptibility to attack. The averages of the results were compared by the Tukey test at 5% significance level. Eucalyptus robusta wood was classified as resistant and Hovenia dulcis wood was classified as non-resistant to both fungi. The index of susceptibility to attack indicated that the species studied present acceptable values and that they are more resistant to the attack of fungi compared with reference species (Pinus sp.; Cecropia sp.)

-This study aimed at evaluating the natural durability of Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus robusta, Eucalyptus tereticornis and Hovenia dulcis woods submitted to a deterioration test in two environments, field and forest. The test samples were buried until half of their length (150 mm). Evaluations were carried out each 45 days, totalizing a 405-day period, with three-repetition withdrawal of each species for environment, totalizing nine samples from each environment, making up 24 test samples for evaluation. After percentage calculations of mass loss and resistance degree classification, the deterioration index was adopted for decomposition evaluation and fungal decay potential determination of test samples. The study has been carried out in completely randomized design (CRD), evaluated through analysis of variance (ANOVA) with subsequent comparison of means by Turkey's test, in a 5%-level of probability of error, along with regression analysis. Eucalyptus tereticornis wood presented lesser mass loss in both environments. Hovenia dulcis presented lesser deterioration probability in both environments. Forest environment test samples presented greater mass loss percentages and lesser deterioration index.

Resumo-A madeira, devido sua origem orgânica, dependendo das condições ambientais que seja exposta, pode ser deteriorada por agentes biológicos. Em vista disto, é extremamente importante que passe por algum tratamento preservativo, com o intuito de aumentar sua vida útil. A presente pesquisa teve por objetivo avaliar a resistência biológica de madeira tratada de Eucalyptus grandis e Eucalyptus cloeziana sob a ação de organismos biodeterioradores em ensaios de campo. Para tanto, foram utilizadas árvores de E. grandis e E. cloeziana, com 16 anos de idade, que foram desdobradas em tábuas e submetidas à secagem ao ar livre para, posteriormente, efetuar-se o tratamento preservativo em autoclave com arseniato de cobre cromatado (CCA). Em seguida, foram confeccionados corpos de prova para realização do ensaio de campo. Observou-se que o tratamento preservativo foi eficiente na redução da degradação biológica das madeiras das duas espécies. Comparando-se os resultados obtidos para as duas espécies, observou-se que E. cloeziana possui maior aptidão para ser utilizado em condições adversas ou em contato com o solo. Biological resistance of treated wood of two species of Eucalyptus in field trial Abstract-Wood can be damaged by biological agents due to its organic origin and environmental conditions. To protect the wood and increase its useful life it is necessary to submit it to preservative treatment. So, the present study aimed to evaluate the biological resistance of the treated wood of Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus cloeziana under the action of biological organisms in field trials. We used trees of E. grandis and E. cloeziana, with 16 years old, which were split into planks and submitted to drying outdoors to later make up the preservative treatment in an autoclave with chromated copper arsenate (CCA). The samples were prepared to conduct the test field. It was observed that the preservative treatment was effective in reducing the biological degradation of wood from both species. Comparing the results obtained for the two species, it was observed that E. cloeziana presents greater ability to be used in adverse conditions or in contact with the ground.

<p class="Resumo">Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar as propriedades físicas da madeira de <em>Pinus patula</em>, com 38 anos, oriundos de um povoamento florestal de Moçambique, localizado no município de Machipanda. A determinação das propriedades físicas como a massa especifica básica, retratibilidade e umidade da madeira, no sentido medula-casca, seguiram as recomendações da Norma Panamericana - COPANT. Os resultados evidenciaram diferença estatística, ao nível de 5% de significância, no sentido radial para o coeficiente de retratibilidade. Os valores de retratibilidade foram de 6,06 e 8,80% no lenho juvenil e 6,18 e 8,65% no lenho adulto no sentido radial e tangencial, respectivamente, com coeficiente de anisotropia de 1,43 no lenho juvenil e 2,44 no lenho adulto. A madeira de <em>Pinus patula</em>, plantado na floresta de Inhamacari, apresenta uma madeira estável aos 38 anos de idade, que pode ser aplicada para fins estruturais e para a fabricação de artigos de carpintaria e móveis.</p>

This study aimed at evaluating thermal modification in mechanical properties of Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus saligna woods compared with a control. To do so, three samples of each species were selected, with approximately 40 years, which had the first two three-meter long logs removed. Wood thermal modification was done through final temperatures of 140 °C, 160 °C e 180 °C for 2.5 hours, and the control as well, using a forced air circulation greenhouse. Mechanical properties tests consisted of maximum impact resistance evaluation, static bending, and fiber parallel compression. Generally, results showed that thermal modification increases wood resistance up to a certain point and reduces in the highest temperature.

ResumoEstudos sobre espécies alternativas de rápido crescimento provenientes de florestas plantadas para produção de painéis laminados de madeira é de grande importância no atendimento às demandas para aplicações estruturais da madeira. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial de uso de seis espécies de Eucalyptus na produção de painéis de lâminas paralelas -LVL. As lâminas foram obtidas num torno piloto com espessura de 2,0 mm. Os painéis foram produzidos com cinco lâminas utilizando a resina fenol-formaldeído em duas diferentes formulações, com gramatura de 320 g/m² (linha dupla). Foram avaliadas as propriedades de resistência da linha de cola e flexão estática paralela e perpendicular. Os resultados indicaram que o aumento no teor de sólidos da batida de cola não melhorou de forma significativa as propriedades mecânicas dos painéis LVL. O E. viminalis foi a espécie que apresentou propriedades mecânicas superiores e o E. deanei propriedades inferiores, quando comparados com os demais tratamentos. Com exceção do E. deanei, todas as demais espécies estudadas apresentam potencial para produção de painéis LVL.Palavras-chave: Eucalipto; colagem de lâminas; resina fenol-formaldeído. AbstractStudies on alternative fast growing species from forest plantations for production of laminated wood panels are of great importance in meeting the demands for structural applications of timber. This work aimed to evaluate the potential use of six species of Eucalyptus in the production of laminated veneer lumber -LVL. The veneers were obtained in a pilot lathe with a thickness of about 2.0 mm. The panels were produced with five veneers using the phenol-formaldehyde resin in two different formulations, with a weight of 320 g / m² (double line). The mechanical properties of the glue line shear strength, parallel and perpendicular static bending tests were evaluated. The results indicated that the increase in glue solids content did not influence significantly the mechanical properties of LVL. E. viminalis was the species with the best performance in static bending tests and E. deanei showed the worst performance among the species studied.
